A retrospective book, showing examples of the practice Steve calls “activist photography” over five decades. The book emphasizes his photographs; the texts deal what he learned or his relationship to each project or community. The projects are wide-ranging, including such themes as: working people in his state of Ohio, factory closings and labor struggles in Ohio; unhoused people in the same area; a visit to Viet-Nam late in the war; and work in Latin America (in Nicaragua, El Salvador, Cuba, and Colombia); among others.
